DUE TO COVID-19 SPIKE IN SAN JOSE, CA, HOMELESS INDIVIDUALS RECEIVE MASKS FROM NEPAL AND KENYA

Two Non-Profits Joining Forces to Prevent the Spread of COVID-19 Locally and Internationally

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, July 28, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The recent spike in COVID-19 cases in Santa Clara County has resulted in a major concern for our homeless community. One unexpected outcome is the partnering of two non-profits, The Global Uplift Project and HomeFirst Services, to provide masks to homeless individuals in Santa Clara County. Robert Freeman, local Bay Area Executive Director of The Global Uplift Project, has leveraged his organization’s global efforts to develop a unique partnership to benefit HomeFirst Services and its clients.

HomeFirst Services has sheltered and fed nearly half of the 10,000 homeless individuals in Santa Clara County. Since COVID-19 hit, the organization has opened four new shelters and continues to ensure that critical services are provided to the County’s most vulnerable unhoused residents. Meanwhile overseas, The Global Uplift Project has made and distributed 44,400 masks for Nepal, Kenya, Tanzania, and starting now, the United States.

Today, Urton's wise words are being put into action thanks to the international community. The Global Uplift Project has pivoted their sewing centers in Nepal and Kenya to not only protect their own communities, but also the homeless and those at risk of homelessness in Santa Clara County. The first shipment of 1,000 masks arrived today to HomeFirst Services. Both organizations need donations to continue such vital work during COVID-19, both locally and internationally.
