Alan Brazil has not held back on his assessment of Celtic centre-back Dedryck Boyata.

Scottish broadcaster Alan Brazil has delivered a passionate rant aimed at Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata, amid reports he has refused to play for the club to help force a move away from Parkhead.

According to the Scottish Sun, the 27-year-old will not sign a new deal with the Bhoys and has not travelled with the squad for the Champions League qualifier against AEK Athens on Tuesday night.

The Belgium international has claimed he has not refused to play despite reports, but the Daily Record claims that Sevilla and Lazio are both interested in signing him this summer.

Brazil has torn into Celtic’s centre-back due to the heavy speculation about him and is convinced he should be lining up for Brendan Rodgers’ side in the midweek clash.

“I don’t know what he’s (Boyata) playing at,” Brazil said on Sport Breakfast show on talkSPORT.

“Nobody really knew him before Brendan gave him a chance at Celtic. He’s gone to the World Cup and done great, his agent has thought, right cash in time now.

“As far as I’m concerned he has to play tonight [against AEK Athens], should have travelled and played tonight so I’m sorry I think he is making a big, big mistake.

“That is the modern day player now. Do they care, do they care about the badge? Do they care about the club? He’s got 60,000 every week wishing him well and he does that. It’s a joke. A disgrace. Bad character I would say. If I was thinking of buying him I would be worried about his temperament, about his heart, about his ethics.”

Celtic are going to have to make do without arguably their best centre-back for a pivotal game against AEK Athens and focus on the football.

The Scottish giants drew 1-1 at home to the Greek club in the first leg of their Champions League third round qualifier, meaning they have plenty of work to do in the away tie if they are to progress.
