Calcutta University performs well in the latest QS university rankings

KOLKATA: Calcutta University secured the 10th rank among public universities in India and is the first among state run universities in the country. It has also secured the 64th rank among the BRICS nations in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) best universities rankings.
“QS Intelligence unit gives international Higher Education World Rankings and this year they have ranked CU as the 64th among all the universities of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS). Among Indian Universities, CU is 10th.
The certificate signed by the international Head of QS international unit has been formally handed over by UGC chairman Ved Chauhan today at Delhi to CU Pro-Vc (Finance) Minakshi Roy,” said vice-chancell.
QS University Rankings: BRICS is a dedicated ranking of the top 300 universities in the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).
Banerjee added, “The academic performance of CU has immensely improved, the research papers cited internationally, patents earned have played a major role in us achieving this glory.”
VC also pointed out that she wants to further augment the academic achievement of CU. “I am extremely happy that the university has worked as a team and made the achievement possible. We will try and upgrade the laboratories and take it up to the international standards so that CU can even compete better,” VC said.
Among the parameters on which the universities are judged under the ranking system is academic reputation and employer reputation from global survey, faculty-student ratio, number of faculties holding Ph.D, papers published by the faculty members, citations, proportion of international students and faculty in the university.
IIT-Bombay has ranked ninth and is the top ranked institute from India.
