LIVE Transfer Talk: Liverpool, Barcelona talking Roberto Firmino for Memphis Depay swap

The summer transfer window is closed for the major leagues in Europe. However, with an eye on January, there's plenty of gossip swirling about who's moving where. Transfer Talk brings you all the latest buzz on rumours, comings, goings and, of course, done deals!

TOP STORY: Firmino, Depay could switch teams

Liverpool are planning potential moves for the January transfer window, and Sport reports a swap deal with Barcelona involving Roberto Firmino and Memphis Depay could be on the cards.

Depay, 28, looked as though he had played his last game for Barca at the end of last season. However, a potential move to Juventus fell through and the Netherlands international has played just two LaLiga matches so far this season.

Meanwhile, Brazil striker Firmino, 30, had been linked with a move away from Anfield in the close season -- also to Juve -- yet he also stayed. Now he's battling for a place in Jurgen Klopp's starting XI alongside Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota, as well as new signing Darwin Nunez.

A swap deal would suit both players and clubs, as Firmino and Depay could leave their respective teams for nothing next summer when their contracts expire.

Liverpool are also plotting further reinforcements, with CBS journalist Ben Jacobs linking the Reds with Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo. The Seagulls would likely want a transfer fee of around £50 million for the 20-year-old.

21.40 BST: Contrary to reports elsewhere, Sport 1 have stated that Bayern Munich are not currently interested in signing Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko, whose contract is set to end in the summer. The Bavarians signed 17-year-old Mathys Tel from Stade Rennais in the summer, so they would only want a seasoned player at the top level in Europe if they were to sign a frontman.

21.21 BST: AS have suggested that Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao and Rodrygo have all renewed their contracts, even though Real Madrid are yet to make any official announcement about it. It is also stated that with seven Los Blancos players reaching the end of their contract in 2023 and another four doing so in 2024, there will be €425m to spend on the squad.

21.08 BST: Newcastle United are the latest club to seriously consider a move for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to inews. Shakhtar's demands are just shy of £50m, which is not seen to be beyond the Magpies, although there is likely to be competition from the likes of Arsenal, Everton and Brentford with Liverpool having also been linked.

20.50 BST: Real Valladolid have confirmed on their official channels that Javi Sanchez has signed a new contract that will keep him with the club from LaLiga until 2026. The defender initially joined them on loan from Real Madrid in 2019 before signing permanently the following summer.

20.15 BST: inter Milan are likely face a difficult decision regarding Milan Skriniar in January with Paris Saint-Germain still looking to sign the centre-back, reports Calciomercato. The Slovakia international's current contract expires in the summer 2023, so if Inter can not persuade him to sign an extension, they will need to either offload him to PSG for less than the €60m offered in the last transfer window or risk losing him as a free agent at the end of the season.

19.40 BST: Kicker have stated that Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane remains one of Bayern Munich's top transfer targets. While they don't want to make the issue too big, the Bavarians have already made initial contacts, while Spurs want to extend the England international's contract past its current 2024 expiration.

19.10 BST: Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has stated that while Diogo Dalot's current contract is set to end this summer, Manchester United have the option to extend it until 2024. The Portugal international has started all of the Red Devils' matches across the Premier League and Europa League this season, providing two assists.

18.23 BST: Georginio Wijnaldum could return from his broken tibia in January, the month in which Roma and Paris Saint-Germain will discuss how to move forward, according to Calciomercato. An extension of the Dutchman's loan with the Serie A club is not possible due to his PSG contract ending in 2024, but Les Parisiens could allow Roma to sign him for less than the €10m included as a clause in his initial loan.

17.38 BST: Shabab Al Ahli from the United Arab Emirates are closing in on a deal to sign Belgian centre-back Jason Denayer, who is currently a free agent, reports Fabrizio Romano. An agreement is said to be imminent with Denayer set to fly to UAE to discuss the finer details and sign a contract.

16.00 BST: The injured Christian Pulisic may prove something to Chelsea if he can perform for the USMNT.

14.49 BST: Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez has been linked with Liverpool, but O Jogo says he won't accept a January move.

Fernandez, 21, only moved to Portugal from River Plate for €10m this summer and has a €120m release clause.

Liverpool are keen to improve their midfield, but Fernandez reportedly wants to wait until next summer before deciding his long-term future.

13.54 BST: Manchester United could consider making a move to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, says Football Insider.

Martinez, 30, has impressed since leaving Arsenal for Villa in 2020 and has staked a claim to be Argentina's No. 1 for the 2022 World Cup.

Amid doubts over David de Gea's long-term future at Old Trafford, United are monitoring a number of goalkeepers. Backup Dean Henderson was allowed to sign for Nottingham Forest on loan over the summer and was replaced by the loan signing of 33-year-old Martin Dubravka from Newcastle, with the long-term No. 1 position unclear.

13.12 BST: Chelsea signed defenders Kalidou Koulibaly and Wesley Fofana for a combined €120m in the summer, but they had other options too.

L'Equipe reports that the Premier League club showed interest in Jules Kounde and Benoit Badiashile.

Kounde moved from Sevilla to Barcelona for €55m, while Badiashile opted to stay with AS Monaco -- a decision which seems to have reaped rewards as he made his senior France debut during this international break.

"Being humble and respectful does not mean not being ambitious. I know how to be patient," Badiashile told reporters. "I'm at a big club, I'm playing and I don't want to go any faster."

12.51 BST: AS claims that Barcelona and Frenkie de Jong are still stuck in negotiations over reducing his salary.

De Jong, 25, was linked with an €85m move to Man United or Chelsea this summer as Barcelona tried to convince the midfielder to take a pay cut amid their ongoing financial issues.

The Netherlands international had signed a new six-year contract in 2020, with then-president Josep Maria Bartomeu deferring part of his reported €30m-a-year salary.

However, with Xavi eager to sign Bernardo Silva from Manchester City in 2023, the Catalan side are still trying to lower the club's wage bill.

12.00 BST: Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries is on the radar of Chelsea, according to Corriere dello Sport.

Dumfries, 26, saw a move to Stamford Bridge mooted over the summer, but Inter rejected Chelsea's bid.

Now, the Blues are set to make a €50m offer for the Netherlands international which could see the Premier League side make their move in January but allow him to stay at Inter on a six-month loan.

11.16 BST: The Daily Telegraph suggests that Manchester United are considering a move for Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.

Pickford, 28, has been targeted for his ability to play the ball with his feet -- a key trait under new manager Erik ten Hag -- with David de Gea struggling and reportedly set to leave on a free transfer next summer.

De Gea, who is 32 next month, has a contract which expires next summer but United hold an option to add another year to it.

10.29 BST: Brighton star Leandro Trossard says he could leave the club if a chance arises.

Trossard, 27, has been one of Brighton's best players and speculation has linked him with a move to Chelsea now former Brighton boss Graham Potter has taken over.

Trossard told Het Nieuwsblad: "Our coach did leave for Chelsea now but speculation about me following him makes no sense. If the opportunity arises, I want to go. But I want to play and not sit on the bench."

With Roberto De Zerbi taking over, the Belgium international may assess his future in January.

10.02 BST: Inter Milan have approached Villarreal left-back Alfonso Pedraza with a view to signing him in 2023, Marca reports.

The Italian club already showed an interest in Pedraza this summer, before they tried to sign Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba without success.

Pedraza, 26, recently signed a new contract until June 2026 with a €50m release clause, having become a regular in Villarreal's starting XI.

09.21 BST: Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler says he would have liked to have remained at Valencia but was not offered a long-term contract.

Soler, 25, moved to PSG this summer in an €18m transfer from Valencia.

"I asked Valencia for a long-term contract because I wanted to bind practically everything," Soler said. "From 25 to 33, 34 or 35 years old, to bind myself all my life with Valencia. A long-term contract, eight or nine or ten years. In Spain it's allowed and that was what I asked the club in that sense. They didn't offer it to me. I don't have anything to reproach them, it's their decision, if they didn't consider it that way, then that's it. It's football."

The Spain international signed a five-year contract with PSG.

"Obviously, I was sad to leave Valencia," he said. "But I have the enthusiasm to start something new, a new stage in my life and I'm going to enjoy this as much as I can."

A youth product of Valencia, Soler did not rule out a return to the Spanish club in the future. "Obviously I would love to return one day as a player," he added. "There are no hard feelings. Valencia is my home, and I would never say no to that option."

08.43 BST: Nemanja Matic is well on course to trigger an automatic contract extension with AS Roma, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.

The 34-year-old moved to Rome in the summer on a one-year deal when his Manchester United contract expired. The Serbia international will be granted another 12 months with Jose Mourinho's side if he plays 19 Serie A matches, and he has featured in all seven so far this season.

Gazzetta says that with another 12 league games to be played before the break for the World Cup on Nov. 13, Matic could already have earned his new contract.

08.00 BST: Football Insider reports Phil Foden has reached an agreement in principle over a new contract at Manchester City.

Foden, 22, is reportedly set to sign a deal which will earn him £250,000-a-week over six years, worth a staggering £78m.

PAPER GOSSIP

- Juventus are keen to reinforce the left side of the defence and Calciomercato is reporting that the Bianconeri see full-back Alejandro Grimaldo as a potential addition. The 27-year-old's contract at Benfica runs out in 2023, which means the Italians could make a move in January ahead of a potential transfer in the summer. Portuguese outlet Record reinforces that Juve are looking to steal a march on their rivals by making a move in the new year. Calciomercato adds that Inter Milan are also keen on the player, who is seeking a change of scenery after seven seasons at the Estadio de Luz.

- Spezia star Jakub Kiwior has already attracted interest from West Ham United and AS Roma, but Calciomercato believes that AC Milan are also now monitoring the 22-year-old. The Poland international can play in defence and midfield, while his age suits Milan's current plan for targeting young and talented players with the potential to grow. There has been no formal offer made by the Rossoneri, who are still analysing new signing Malick Thiaw's progress since joining from Schalke in the summer.

- The Daily Mail reports that Arsenal scouts are keeping a watchful eye on Lovro Majer. Indeed, The Sun goes further to suggest that the Gunners have watched the 24-year-old on two occasions, including his match-winning cameo for Croatia against Denmark last Thursday. The midfielder is in his second season at French club Rennes after joining from Dinamo Zagreb last year, but has a valuation of €60m.

- Brazil's Allan has joined Al Wahda from Everton, the UAE Pro League club announced Sunday. The 31-year-old midfielder leaves Frank Lampard's side after arriving at Goodison Park in 2020. He played 57 games in all competitions but has not featured this season. Allan has 10 caps for Brazil and won the Copa America in 2019.
