Just days after disgraced businessman Salim Mehajer was jailed for rigging a local election it has been revealed his heavy online following could be fake.
The former deputy mayor was jailed on Friday for 21 months over local New South Wales Government electoral fraud in 2012 however it also appears Mehajer tampered with his online profile.
The 32-year-old boasts more than 184,000 followers on Instagram but almost half of his online supporters appear to fake accounts from Brazil.

Despite boasting photographs of luxurious cars, watches and an affluent lifestyle, the criminal's popularity could be forged with more than 40 per cent of the followers are from Latin America - a place renown for selling profiles, Sydney Morning Herald reported.
Meanwhile 55 per cent of Mehajer's followers are rated as 'very bad' making them likely to be fake accounts, known as bots.

Six years ago Mehajer rigged a local election which ultimately led to him landing the Auburn deputy mayor role.
The 32-year-old will spend at least 11 months behind bars for 77 cases of electoral fraud.
The criminal was recently jailed for a few months after he was charged with perverting the course of justice for allegedly staging a car accident of his way to face assault charges late last year.
The controversial businessman has had regular run ins with the law since he shot to fame three years ago for his extravagant wedding which shut down an entire street.
