Manchester United midfielder Fred has been called up to the Brazil national team.

Though he didn't enjoy a great evening as United were defeated 4-2 by Liverpool on Thursday, Fred received the good news on Friday as manager Tite announced his squad for the upcoming World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

Brazil will face Ecuador at home on Saturday, June 5, before then travelling to face Paraguay on Wednesday, June 9, as they look to take a step closer to qualifying for Qatar.

Fred, who hasn't played for his country since 2018, will be hoping he can add to his 11 caps and that he does well enough while with the national team to earn a spot in the squad for this summer's Copa America, in which Brazil play their first game just six days later on Saturday, June 19, against Peru.

The defensive-midfielder will be joined by several other players from the Premier League, including Manchester City pair Ederson and Gabriel Jesus, Liverpool trio Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino, Everton's Richarlison, Douglas Luiz of Aston Villa and Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva.

There is no spot in the squad for Fred's United teammate Alex Telles or out-on-loan midfielder Andreas Pereira.
