Brazil legend Pele has sent a message of congratulations to Alisson after the goalkeeper completed his move to Liverpool.

Alisson joined the Reds in a £66.8million deal on Thursday after deciding to snub advances from Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The transfer is a world record fee paid for a stopper and Liverpool fans will be praying the Brazilian solves their persistent goalkeeping issues.

And three-time World Cup winner Pele is also hoping Alisson can thrive at Anfield, as the 77–year-old sent a message to his compatriot on Twitter.

He said: ‘Alisson, it’s great to see your success. I hope you shine next to (Bobby) Firmino in Liverpool. I’m rooting for you.’

Alisson has been inundated with messages from admirers, including his new team-mate Mohamed Salah.

‘We didn’t have that much contact after he (Salah) left Roma,’ Alisson told Liverpool’s official website. ‘We met again in the game when we were up against each other [in the Champions League last season].

‘Yesterday, he sent me a message saying: ‘Hey, what are you waiting for?’ As the negotiations were at an advanced stage, I replied to him straight away saying: ‘Calm down, I’m on my way!’

‘I’m really happy to have the opportunity to play alongside him again.

‘As well as being a great player, he is a huge character and a great person – which is the most important thing. ‘To be with these great people and players day to day is fantastic for me.’

Liverpool have spent big on Alisson after he failed to make a single error leading to a goal last season playing for Roma.

Alisson’s arrival seems to spell the end for Loris Karius’ long-term future at the club, unless the German is happy playing second fiddle.
